How to Set up your ALE account

On many sites across China and Asia, you'll find ads from the Asia Link Exchange network of advertisers. We call it ALE for short, and it's not because I happen to like beer. Here's a (not so) short intro on how to set up your ads in the right categories, as well as setting up your banner exchange code.

How to set up your ads.

Barring the technical aspect of the ads, here's an idea of what you may be considering when placing your ad and choosing your category. I'll use my own company as an example. TeraScape.NETworks is an IT company. When I add my ad to the Link Exchange, I mark it as an IT company. I also chose a few extras. TeraScape is also considered a service, therefore I also chose "Commercial_Services". As for other categories, I currently want to hit the Chinese market, so I chose "Regional_China" and "Regional_Hong Kong" There it is. Done. Quite easy actually. Now it's time to add the code to your own site. Again, my site is IT, so there's IT on the categories I can choose to have ads listed on my site. But wait... I don't WANT other IT ads on my site. Why? Well, I certainly don't want my competitors running ads on my site. I simply choose NOT to have IT ads rotating. Keep this in mind.

So what do I choose?

Currently, I'm only dealing with Shanghai- & China-based businesses. Therefore, I want to set my ad up to show up on those kinds of websites. My friend, over at Freddie's Bar and Grill has a lot of foreign business people frequenting his site. He's signed up to ALE with an ad under the "Commercial - Food & Beverage" category. So I check that category to show up there, as well as any other restaurant website that signs up to ALE. These same restaurants & bars will also now show up on my own site. I also want to expand my reaches around China, and see that there's an "Expat Sites-China" category. Excellent! I end up with ads on ShanghaiExpat.com, JinanLIVE.com, TianjinExpats.com and dozens of others! At the same time, my site introduces these new areas to my visitors! News-China seems a likely candidate for ad-placement. as the people making the business decisions for their companies will be watching the local news outlets. Sounds like a decent place for my ad. There are still 3 more categories, and as previously stated, I don't want to reach beyond China just yet. There's a whole large market that needs a good tapping at the moment. These are some of the things to consider about your own ad on ALE. What kind of company are YOU? Pick your best category. Where are your target clients? Pick the best ad rotation categories and regions. And don't be afraid to log back in & change up your selection once in awhile.

Back to my ad

So my ad is under the IT category. Who's going to choose to display IT ads on their sites? Who would most benefit from having THEIR ads on an IT site? How about "Commercial-Services" or "Commercial-Real Estate"? These two categories may have companies that focus on people coming into Asia for the first time. What do first-time people need? They need a home, and sometimes, they need services. What do companies look for when moving to China? Real Estate, Services & IT. Business & Trade would do well to be seen by some of our more technologically savvy people as well as Travel & especially Online Stores! Notice that it's not the same categories I chose to show my ad in. Again, as stated before, it's simply a matter of where YOUR customers are surfing. If you're a restaurant company, then Expat Sites would be ideal for you! If you're Business & Trade, then the Finance, IT & Services categories may be right for you. You can always contact us at ALE for help, too. We're happy to answer any inquiries!
