System Updates

System updates, concerning planned upgrades, outages and general server performance.

DDoS attack at the Datacenter

A DDoS attack occurred early this morning around 5:30, and ended around 6am affecting the Hong Kong datacenter. No damage done to TeraScape servers specifically. The target was the DC's router.

Google Apps in China: In Case of Outage

Just a note to all Mainland China users who have adopted Google Apps as their mail client. By now, you may all have heard that Google has been in a rather messy situation with the government. As of today, they have stopped censorship and are starting to relay Google sites to the Hong Kong Google homepage.

If you are using Google Apps, as we are, be sure to have a contingency plan in place to ensure email delivery. Should Google Apps suddenly be blocked, simply go back to your control panel and revert back to the TeraScape MX records on file and enter back in your email addresses.

CP & Email to be reset to new server

The Server will be reset to route email & the control panel by the end of the day. Email will be routed through the new server in due time. Horde email is accessible. http://email.terascape.net

~ Added separate mail server & moved the CP to the new server.
~ Added Greylisting anti-spam measures.
~ Reconfigured the mail system to be a bit more harsh on spam without being harsh on the inbox.
~ Added DomainKeys functions (Still under beta-test. This will soon be rolled out on all accounts with access "off" unless activated on your control panel).

Maybe you already knew this, but... (Mobile Email)

If you're on the road somewhere, without your laptop, you can still check your mail on any wifi-enabled phone using the Horde interface (email.terascape.net). Use your phone to navigate to this page:

http://mb.terascape.net

and log in using your full email & password. The smaller, virtually imageless display will load fast on your phone, so you can check your email while on the road.

Fix My Writing!

Fix My Writing Logo

http://www.fixmywriting.net/ went live last week. Using the same ideas in the Pub & Restaurants field, we set up a simple e-commerce site. This time around, users aren't ordering products so much as ordering "Word Count". Each shopping field is set up in a way that when users submit their documents, they supply the amount of words for "Quantity" and the price adjusts accordingly.

It's a simple, user-friendly, Drupal-based website, with an excellent back-end for easy product perusal & retrieval.

Upgrading to HSphere 3.1

Logo- Hsphere

We'll be updating HSphere to 3.1 on Saturday, February 28th. Downtime should be minimal, less than 20 minutes. The upgrade will bring the latest versions of HSphere, MySQL, PHP & Horde and SQwebmail.

Additional RAM Installation

RAM (chips)

We're adding more RAM to the servers giving them a total of 4 gigs of ram per server later this week. This will add more speed and processing power to pageloads & websites in general. We expect no more than 5 minutes of downtime to make the switch, and we'll try to start this in an evening to avoid business hours.

Mail Attachment Quota Update

Email (Envelope)

The system will now allow attachments up to 20 Megs for emails. Due to the numerous design companies that host with us, we've increased this to allow for larger size files to be transferred.
